Join Amnesty UK Queer Rights Network for the national launch of Reading for Resistance, a campaign against censorship of LGBTQ+ rights.

While many people associate the suppression of LGBTQ+ voices with the era of Section 28, efforts to restrict access to queer books, stories and rights continue today.

This November marks 23 years since the repeal of Section 28, it is also Trans Awareness Week. Join us, Amnesty International UK Queer Rights Network, for the public launch of Reading for Resistance, a new campaign bringing together libraries, councils, authors and communities to defend hardwon LGBTQ+ rights.

We're excited to hear from a panel of incredible speakers, including Dean Atta, BAFTA award-winning screenwriter and Stonewall Book Award-winning author. More speakers to be announced.

The event will mark the launch of Amnesty's new Queer Stories Covenant, a public pledge for libraries, councils and cultural institutions committed to protecting access to LGBTQ+ stories and resisting censorship. You'll leave with practical ways to support the campaign and take action in your community.

At a time when queer voices and stories are increasingly being challenged, this event is a chance to come together, reflect on the progress we've made, and recommit to defending queer rights.

We don't want the cost of a ticket to stop anyone from attending. If you'd like a free ticket please email activistevents@amnesty.org.uk
