Rose Players Plus

Age 18+ | Completion of Players course required

Our Rose Players Plus course is available for anyone who has completed our introductory Rose Players Course. The course will build on the skills learnt in Rose Players, with an introduction to different theatre styles and acting technique. This is a rolling course and members will be able to re-join each term. No previous acting experience is required other than attending our original Players course and there’s no audition.

Our curriculum has been designed to give members a comprehensive understanding of key theatre styles. Each term will have a designated focus, with opportunities to explore technique and related practitioners. The group will then apply their learning to a text, which will be presented in an informal showing at the end of the term.

Curriculum Structure

Autumn Term: Shakespeare

We start the academic year with an introduction to Shakespeare, exploring sonnets, monologues and text. You will be introduced to the technical process of scansion – identifying the stressed and unstressed syllables within a line of verse. Students will work through the intricacies of alliteration, antithesis, and other rhetorical devices commonly found in Shakespeare’s writing to deepen their understanding and ability to deliver powerful speeches

Spring Term: Physical Performance

The new year starts with a completely different approach to characterisation. You will be introduced to new acting techniques that use physicality as the basis for exploring and developing character. These could include animal studies, clowning, Laban technique and View Points.

Summer Term: Modern Classics

We finish the year with our modern classics term. There will be an opportunity to revisit some of the work covered in Players, developing a deeper understanding of Stanislavski’s technique, as well as looking at the teachings of alternative practitioners, such as Meisner, Michael Chekhov, Uta Hagen.
