Casting Director
Sam Jones has been Head of Casting for the Royal Shakespeare Company, Casting Director for the Almeida Theatre, for the first two seasons of Theatr Clwyd under Terry Hands, and, for the first 6 years of its life, National Theatre Wales. She’s worked with Sir Peter Hall, Steven Berkoff, Luc Bondy and Patrice Chéreau as well as Shared Experience, Told by an Idiot and Emma Rice - both for Kneehigh and Wise Children. She’s worked for the Royal National Theatre, Royal Court, Hampstead Theatre, Old Vic and Young Vic and many West End theatres including on Moira and Fiona Buffini’s Dinner, Polly Teale’s After Mrs Rochester, Ian Rickson’s Hamlet, Mojo, Electra, Betrayal, Old Times and The Children’s Hour and several casts of Journey’s End as well as many other international and regional theatre productions. She’s also worked on installation art projects such as Isaac Julien’s Paradise Omeros, immersive theatre/ film projects such as Punchdrunk’s Viola’s Room and BAC’s The Way Out and cross-genre collaborations such as Manchester International Festival’s Invisible Cities, a co-production with 59 Productions and Ballet Rambert. Her recent television and film work includes: BAFTA Cymru nominated Until I Kill You and A Cruel Love; Hugo Blick’s California Avenue, The English and Black Earth Rising; The Long Call; Ridley Road; Wanderlust; Life; NW; Don’t Forget The Driver; Roger Michell’s The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies; Pip Broughton’s The Trick, To Provide All People and Under Milk Wood and Dominic Cooke’s The Hollow Crown as well as Amit Gupta’s Resistance, Jadoo and One Crazy Thing.
She is a member of the Casting Directors’ Guild, the International Casting Director’s Association and is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
