Chris Pirie
Puppetry Director
Chris is a puppetry director, designer and performer. He is the Artistic Director of Green Ginger and has created puppetry for productions including Cinderella - A Fairytale, Sinbad and Ali Baba & the 40 Thieves (Tobacco Factory Theatres); Tiddler & Other Terrific Tales (Scamp); Birthmarked, Peter Pan and Boing! (National Theatre/Bristol Old Vic); Snow Mice! and David Copperfield (Theatre Royal Bath); Scrooge and The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk (Kneehigh); Snow Child, Luna and The Magic Toyshop (Theatr Iolo); Lexicon (NoFit State Circus); The Adventures of Sancho Panza (Hijinx); The BFG (Royal & Derngate); and The Queen of Spades (Norwegian National Opera).
His work has also been seen at Opera di Roma, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Welsh National Opera, Canadian Opera Company, San Francisco Opera and Houston Grand Opera.
Arena work includes: Metamorphosis (Arcadia Spectacular) and Coldplay's Music of the Spheres World Tour.
Film and television work includes: puppetry for Netflix, Aardman Animations, the BBC and Channel 5.
A Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, he lectures at leading academic institutions, co-founded the biennial Bristol Festival of Puppetry, and created Toast in the Machine, a mentorship program for emerging puppeteers.
