Layla Madanat

Director

Following a Master’s Degree in Gender, Development and Globalisation from the LSE, Layla has worked as a Director, Dramaturg, Producer, and Researcher, combining creative and socially engaged approaches to create live relationships between arts projects and social justice causes. 

She has been Assistant/Associate Director at the Royal Shakespeare Company, Shakespeare's Globe, and the Rose Theatre, the latter nominating her for the Evening Standard and TikTok "Future Theatre Fund”, for which she was a finalist. She was also the Associate to the Artistic Director on Little Amal’s 2021 “The Walk” across Europe. She has directed at the VAULT Festival, King’s Head and Union Theatres, and has had work shortlisted for Underbelly Untapped, VAULT Origins Award and the VAULT/Stagedoor People’s Choice Award.

Layla has co-directed a documentary that was showcased at the BFI London Film Festival and Sheffield Doc Fest. As a Producer, she has produced work for Theatre503 and The Walk with Little Amal, and was part of the 22/23 Stage One Bridge the Gap cohort. Additionally, Layla utilises her training in qualitative research for charities and social justice organisations such as Spark and Co. and Sikh Forgiveness. 

Layla is an Associate Tutor at the Guildford School of Acting and was recently appointed as an Ambassador Trustee on the Young Vic’s Board of Trustees.
