A celebrated stage and screen actor with a career rooted in the theatre, Michael gained early acclaim in Romeo and Juliet and Amadeus, earning multiple Olivier Award nominations. His Hamlet at the Young Vic solidified his reputation as one of the most compelling actors of his generation, and his portrayal of David Frost in Frost/Nixon at the Donmar Warehouse, a role he reprised on Broadway, earned him a fourth Olivier nomination. In 2011, he co-directed and starred in The Passion, a 72-hour performance in his hometown of Port Talbot. As founder and Artistic Director of the Welsh National Theatre, his ambition is to champion bold storytelling, ambitious plays and give Welsh talent a pathway to and platform on the world stage.
