For the very first episode of Through Rose Tinted Specs, Chris speaks to playwright, theatre director and poet Chino Odimba. Chino is on the board of Bristol Old Vic, has had work produced on Channel 4 and Radio 4, at theatres including Hampstead Theatre and Kiln Theatre, and she won the Sonia Friedman Award in 2018.
Chino and Chris directed The Caretaker at Bristol Old Vic together in September 2017.
Topics include: the effect of lockdown and the resurgence of Black Lives Matter on Chino’s work as an artist; how theatres can engage with and take responsibility for issues of race and identity; her role on the board of a regional theatre and as a writer; conveying different cultures in theatre with integrity; how she would revive the industry post-pandemic; artists that inspire her and provide a good model for the future.
